The client is a US based leading medical center serving as a referral center for patients requiring highly specialized medical care that involves advanced and complex procedures. The client is among the nation’s foremost resources for comprehensive and compassionate patient care, research and education in the mental health field.
The client wanted to create an online platform to recruit and manage subjects in support of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s research. The website would be linked to a large internet based registry of participants in Northern California who are over the age of 55. This registry includes demographic data, information regarding memory complaints, disability, mood, and health history obtained through questionnaires, results from online computer based cognitive testing, genetic test data and electronic health care records obtained from health care providers.
Client’s goal is to enroll 50,000 participants within 5 years. The portal would help in recruiting and managing subjects in support of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s research.
The objectives of the project were as listed below:
Creation of a web portal for participants to join
Exposing a variety of questionnaires and assessments to logged-in participants
Engage participants progressively through core and extended inquiry
Integration with third party assessment tools to streamline user experience and data flow
Capture participant demographic data for segmentation and outreach
Enable the creation of additional questionnaires and categories
Creation of reports and dashboards to monitor and segment participants
Customization of the user interface, navigation, look and feel to match the web design
The portal is also intended to serve as a model for similar initiatives for other research topics in health science. Therefore, the portal must have scalability to support additional studies, websites and even additional databases in the future.

Eternus Solutions was engaged with the client in the capacity of an Offshore-based Delivery Center, collaboratively taking care of the entire development and integration process.
Communities Implementation & Development –The team used Agile processes to develop and implement the portal through Salesforce Communities. The team also maximized the capabilities offered by the SFDC platform to deliver the registry functionality and customized SFDC portal authentication capabilities to manage User Registration.
Salesforce-Qualtrics Integration – Eternus Solutions team of certified consultants integrated Salesforce with a 3rd party questionnaire tool Qualtrics and a cognitive testing tool CogState ClinicalTrials. We customized Qualtrics UI as per client’s specifications and integrated Participants’ portal with Qualtrics, which involved user sign up, user questionnaire access and returning user questionnaire responses to the Participants’ portal.
Salesforce-Lumosity Integration – Eternus Solutions team of certified consultants integrated Salesforce with Lumosity brain performance test tool to assess patient’s cognitive abilities in five core areas as brain flexibility, speed, attention, memory and problem solving capacity. We integrated Participants’ portal with Lumosity brain performance test site, which involved user questionnaire access and returning brain performance report and test score to the Participants’ portal.
UI Design and Development – The project involved very professional and complex UI design and development that were in sync with the client’s global corporate website. The portal UI was compatible with all standard web browsers and tablets. Eternus Solutions UI team was instrumental in conceptualizing the wireframes for this portal implementation and developing the HTML and CSS for the same, ensuring their compatibility on required web browsers and devices.
